Gare de Lyon

The station was built for the World Exposition of 1900 and is considered a classic example of the architecture of its time. It's most famous feature is the clock tower on one corner of the station, which is similar in style to the clock tower that houses Big Ben. The Gare de Lyon handles an astonishing 90,000,000 NINETY MILLION passengers every year, making it the third busiest station in France and one of the busiest in Europe, as trains for the South of France, Switzerland and Italy leave from its platforms.

The layout is straightforward. Platforms 5-23 (yellow zone) are to the left of the concourse and A-N (blue zone) to the right. The corridor leading from the front of the station to platforms 5-23 is called Galerie des Fresques and there's a mural above the attractive shops and ticket office, depicting scenes from the journey from Marseille to Paris. Palm trees decorate the main concourse.

Shops and Bars

Plenty of shops and cafes including many of the chains such as Sephora. Gare de Lyon is home to the famous Le Train Bleu restaurant , a wonderfully ornate Belle Epoque restaurant that has been serving travellers since 1901.

Left Luggage

Left luggage is on the floor below the main concourse.

Metro

Access to the Metro is in the main concourse. Allow about 45 minutes to reach Gare Du Nord on RER line D.

Taxis

Taxis are directly at the front of the station at Place Louis Armand (ground level). They can also be found at Rue de Bercy (level –1) or extension Chalon (level –2).

Access

Disabled Access is often poor in Paris stations but there are staff able to help. Services for disabled travellers are available just near platforms 5-23 in the buildings between Galerie Des Fresques opposite Platform M, next to the welcome kiosk (accesplus@sncf.fr) Passengers requiring assistance should contact the 'Access Plus Service' 30 minutes before departure. 06:00 – 00:00 every day.
